The global body of cricket, ICC, has announced the schedule of this year's Women's ODI World Cup to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka. In this global tournament, India and Pakistan will clash on October 5 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Colombo has been kept as a neutral venue under the hybrid model. The Indian team will start its campaign in this tournament with a match against Sri Lanka in Bangalore on September 30 and after this, its next match will be against Pakistan.
India-Sri Lanka matches will be held in five cities.
The ICC had already announced the dates and venue of the Women's ODI World Cup, but on Monday it also announced its schedule. This global tournament will start on September 30, and its final match will be played on November 2. Its matches will be held in five cities of India and Sri Lanka, which include M Chinnaswamy in Bangalore, ACA Stadium in Guwahati, Holkar Stadium in Indore, ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam and R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
This global tournament will be organized in India after 12 years. The first semi-final match will be held in Guwahati or Colombo on October 29, while the second semi-final match will be played in Bangalore on October 30. Both the teams reaching the final will get two days to prepare. The title match of the Women's ODI World Cup will be played in Bangalore or Colombo on November 2.
Eight teams will participate.
Eight teams will participate in the Women's ODI World Cup, which includes India, Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Australia will enter this tournament as the defending champion. It defeated England in the final of the last World Cup played in New Zealand in 2022. Australia has won the title seven times and is the most successful team in the tournament history. India was earlier its only host but the matches of the tournament will now be played in Bangalore, Guwahati, Indore, Visakhapatnam, and Colombo. Colombo has been added as Pakistan will not be coming to India for ICC tournaments and the hybrid model was approved in the Champions Trophy earlier this year.
India's matches
After playing Sri Lanka and Pakistan, the Indian team will play against South Africa on October 9 and Australia on October 12 in Visakhapatnam. The team will take on England in Indore on October 19 and then face New Zealand in Guwahati on October 23. The Indian team will also face Bangladesh at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on October 26. This quashed the rumors of the venue losing the hosting rights after the stampede during the victory celebrations of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
