Often, after adding a new member to a group, other members had to forward chats or send screenshots to explain the old information. What is the Group Message History feature?
WhatsApp's Group Message History feature is designed to provide new members with important context about past group conversations. This update allows the group admin or a member to manually share 25 to 100 recent messages with the new member. This means that the entire old chat record will not be shown, but only the amount necessary to understand the context.
How will old chats be visible?
WhatsApp has taken utmost care in protecting privacy. This feature will not be enabled by default. Only the group admin can decide whether to share message history. Furthermore, admins can also disable this feature completely.
How will old chats be identified?
Old shared chats will appear slightly different from regular messages, maintaining transparency. Furthermore, when history is shared, old members will immediately know what information has been shared with the new member. This adds layer of security.
For whom is it most beneficial?
These days, WhatsApp groups are widely used for office work, housing societies, or family events. In such situations, providing new members with immediate access to relevant information can greatly simplify group coordination.

Who will receive the update and when?
This feature is gradually rolling out to Android and iOS users. If you don't see this option in your app, update it from the Play Store or App Store. However, availability may be phased in in some locations.
