'Kanya Pujan' (worship of young girls) holds special significance during Navratri. On this day, young girls are revered as manifestations of Goddess Durga; they are worshipped and served a meal with great love and care. Every household strives to prepare delicious food that the girls will truly enjoy. While the traditional offering—consisting of *halwa* (a sweet semolina pudding), *puri* (deep-fried flatbread), and *chana* (black chickpeas)—is the most common choice, one can also include other dishes tailored to children's preferences.

**Traditional Offering: Halwa, Puri, and Black Chickpeas**
The most popular meal for *Kanya Pujan* consists of *suji ka halwa* (semolina pudding), fluffy *puris*, and *kale chane* (black chickpeas). This combination is not only delicious but also nutritious. Most children love the sweet taste of *halwa*, making it the highlight of the meal.
**Mildly Spiced Potato Curry**
A potato curry (*aloo ki sabzi*) can also be served alongside the *puris*. Ensure that the dish is not too spicy, as young children generally prefer milder flavors.
**Include Fruit Chaat**
If you wish to make the meal healthier, you can add a fruit *chaat*—a mix of fruits like apples, bananas, guavas, and pomegranates. Children find this colorful and tasty.
**Offer Kheer (Rice Pudding) for Dessert**
Along with *halwa*, *kheer* (rice pudding) is an excellent option. Garnished with cardamom and dry fruits, it is a favorite among children and holds special significance during such religious observances.
**Mini Samosas or Sandwiches**
If you are hosting a larger group of girls, you could prepare mini samosas or vegetable sandwiches as a light snack. These are appealing to children and easy for them to eat.
**Homemade Sweet Drinks**
You can also serve beverages like *sharbat*, *thandai*, or fresh fruit juice alongside the meal. This provides a refreshing experience for the children and also enhances the taste of the food.

Serve the food with love
During Kanya Pujan, it is not just the food itself that matters, but also the way it is served. The core spirit of this celebration lies in seating the children with love and respect, keeping their preferences in mind, and feeding them with genuine affection.
