Smriti Mandhana-Palash: From the wedding getting postponed to the alleged chat screenshots going viral, know what happened?

Filmmaker-composer Palash Muchhal and Indian women's cricket team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana were scheduled to marry on November 23rd in Sangli, Maharashtra. Friends and relatives had gathered, and guests had arrived, but just then the wedding was postponed indefinitely. A statement from the family stated that Smriti's father's health had suddenly deteriorated, but the story circulating on social media suggests otherwise. Let's take a look at what has happened so far in this entire matter.

This is how Palash gave the first hint about the wedding.
Rumors of their marriage first surfaced on social media in October this year. Palash hinted at their relationship during an event at the State Press Club in Indore. Avoiding direct confirmation, he jokingly said that Mandhana would soon become Indore's daughter-in-law. His comment fueled speculation but did not reveal any concrete plans.

Smriti Confirms Engagement
On November 20, Smriti Mandhana chose a fun way to share a special moment from her personal life. She confirmed her engagement to musician Palash Muchhal through an Instagram Reel. Smriti, along with the rest of the team, was seen dancing to the Bollywood song "Samjho Ho Hi Gaya..." (It's a Good Time). The video also featured Jemimah Rodrigues, Shreyanka Patil, Radha Yadav, and Arundhati Reddy. In the same video, Smriti Mandhana finally extended her hand to the camera, flashed her engagement ring, and confirmed the long-standing rumor.

Palash Proposed in the Middle of the Field
The very next day, Palash Muchhal announced in a video on his Instagram that Smriti had agreed to marry him. In the video, shared on November 21, Palash blindfolded Smriti and took her to Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium, where the women's team won its first ODI World Cup title. He then took her to the middle of the pitch and proposed to her by putting a ring on her finger. In the video, Palash was seen kneeling and proposing to Mandhana, to which Smriti said yes.

Rituals began on November 21st.
Subsequently, videos and photos of the Haldi ceremony, the day before their wedding, surfaced on social media. The Indian women's cricket team, along with close friends of Smriti and Palash, were seen at the Haldi ceremony. Videos also showed Smriti and Palash dancing together. Both looked very happy, dressed in yellow.

Festive Mehndi Ceremony
The following day, on November 22nd, Smriti's hands were adorned with mehndi with Palash's name. The couple's Mehndi ceremony was held with great pomp and show, attended by many well-known personalities from the film and cricket worlds. Beautiful photos of this special occasion quickly went viral on social media. On the day of the Mehndi, Smriti Mandhana wore a purple traditional lehenga, while Palash Muchhal was seen in a white sherwani and golden waistcoat.

Both danced vigorously at the Sangeet Ceremony.
The couple's Sangeet ceremony was held on the same night. Some videos from the Sangeet ceremony surfaced on November 22nd. In these videos, Palash and Smriti were seen dancing on stage. Smriti sang a romantic song for Palash from the stage and also danced with his parents. The entire family danced vigorously at Smriti and Palash's Sangeet.

Sudden Wedding Postponement
On November 23rd, while everyone was waiting for the couple's wedding photos and videos, Smriti Mandhana's manager, Tuheen Mishra, announced that Smriti's father's health had deteriorated that morning, and he was hospitalized. Smriti is very close to her father, and therefore, they decided to postpone the wedding. He stated that the wedding had been postponed indefinitely.

Father's health update
Shortly after the news of the wedding being postponed, a doctor at Sangli's Sarvahit Hospital provided an update on Smriti's father's health, stating that he experienced pain in the left side of his chest and was brought to the hospital. He had symptoms of a heart attack. The doctor stated that an echocardiogram was performed, which revealed no complications, and that an angiography may be required if necessary.

Palash also reached the hospital.
On the morning of November 24th, Palash's health also deteriorated, and he was also taken to the hospital. There were reports that Palash had been admitted to the same hospital in Sangli. He was diagnosed with a viral infection and acidity.

Smriti Removes Video
By evening, rumors began circulating on social media about the reasons for the wedding's postponement. Meanwhile, Smriti deleted the video from her Instagram account in which she had announced her engagement.

Palak Muchhal's Appeal
By the evening of the 24th, Palash's sister, Palak Muchhal, clarified the matter on her Instagram story and appealed to the public. She wrote that the wedding had been postponed due to Smriti's father's deteriorating health. She appealed for respect for the privacy of both families.

Palak Reaches Hospital
Palash was shifted from Sangli to a Mumbai hospital, where Palak visited him this morning. His mother, Amita, also stated that Palash's condition was deteriorating, and they had previously decided not to take the wedding vows until Smriti's father fully recovered.

Viral Screenshots Fuel Controversy
The situation became more complicated when a user on the social media platform Reddit shared screenshots of alleged chats. It claimed the chats were between Palash and a woman named Mary De Costa. (Amar Ujala cannot confirm the authenticity of this.) Although the account and profile picture have now been deleted, the chats quickly went viral online. Screenshots allegedly show these chats from May 2025. In the chats, a message was sent from an Instagram account named Palash to a woman, in which they discussed swimming and meeting together.
