Often, before performing puja or worship, the question arises whether bathing is necessary. It is often said that one should only perform puja and darshan after bathing. Vindhyadham's learned astrologer, Akhilesh Agrahari, says that the Garuda Purana and other scriptures contain provisions regarding daily rituals and worship. According to the scriptures, worshipping deities and chanting mantras without bathing does not yield any results.

Both classical and scientific theories have different opinions on this subject. Manusmriti states that one should not worship deities, chant, or perform havan without bathing. The purification of the body and mind by bathing is considered the primary reason. A pure mind helps in faith in God and meditation. The Garuda Purana also states that worshipping deities and chanting mantras without bathing does not yield any results. Because bathing is a method of connecting with God, it purifies the mind. After bathing, new energy and consciousness awaken in the body, making bathing essential. Daily rituals are also described in the Eklavya Smriti.

Bathing Purifies the Body and mind
Akhilesh explained that bathing is essential for physical purification. Sleeping overnight leaves the body feeling sweaty and lethargic. Bathing purifies the mind through the consciousness it releases. The water element calms the mind. Water is associated with the Moon. When water falls on the body, concentration and peace are felt. According to Vastu and spirituality, an impure body reduces the flow of Satvik energy. Satvik energy is essential for worshipping God. Worship and offering prayers establish a direct connection with God. Therefore, without Satvik energy, it is not fruitful. Therefore, worship and offering prayers should be performed only after bathing.
