In Hinduism, *Pitru Paksha* is considered a significant period for remembering one's ancestors and paying homage to them. According to religious beliefs, this period extends from the full moon day (*Purnima*) of the Bhadrapada month to the new moon day (*Amavasya*) of the Ashwin month. During this time, people perform rituals such as *Tarpan*, *Shraddha*, and *Pind Daan* for the sake of their ancestors. It is believed that the blessings of pleased ancestors bring happiness, peace, and prosperity to the family, whereas ancestral dissatisfaction is often linked to obstacles in life.

Ancestors convey their happiness or displeasure through various means throughout the year—not just during *Pitru Paksha*—and dreams play a significant role in this. Many people see their ancestors in dreams. We can only decipher the hidden messages in such dreams if we understand their significance. Let us learn about the importance and meaning of such dreams according to *Swapna Shastra* (the science of dream interpretation) from Acharya Anand Bhardwaj of Ujjain.
**Auspicous and Inauspicious Signs from Ancestors in Dreams**
1. If ancestors appear in a dream visiting a temple, offering prayers, bathing in the Ganges, or at a pilgrimage site, it implies that they desire spiritual merit (*Punya*) or salvation (*Moksha*) through you. In such a case, you should perform meritorious acts—such as bathing in the Ganges or making donations—in their name.
2. If ancestors appear standing near your head in a dream, it is an auspicious sign; however, if they appear standing near your feet, it suggests that something untoward is about to happen.
3. If you see yourself conversing with your ancestors in a dream, it indicates that you will achieve great success in a future endeavor. Conversely, if you see ancestors grooming or combing their hair, it signifies that they are pleased; this is a sign that good times are approaching.
4. According to *Swapna Shastra*, if ancestors are seen distributing sweets or giving something in a dream, it is considered an auspicious sign. Your ancestors have accepted the rituals you performed—such as Shraddha, Tarpan, and Pind Daan—and are satisfied. Consequently, your home will soon be filled with happiness and prosperity.
5. According to *Swapna Shastra* (the science of dream interpretation), if you see your ancestors feeding you in a dream, it indicates that the time ahead will be excellent for you. Your life will be blessed with an abundance of happiness, wealth, and prosperity.

6. If your ancestors appear only for a fleeting moment in a dream and then vanish, it is considered inauspicious. This dream signifies that a major crisis is looming in your life; it would be best to worship your *Ishta Devata* (chosen deity).
