Parenting Tips: Special care is needed when doing anything with a young child. One of these is cutting their nails. Long nails can cause injury to the eyes, nose, or face. Furthermore, getting long nails into the mouth can increase the risk of infection. Therefore, it's important to trim nails regularly. Pediatrician Ravi Malik shared a video on his Instagram handle. In this video, the doctor explains the correct way to cut children's nails. Let's learn more about it:

Make the child comfortable.
First, doctors recommend making the child comfortable. If the child is scared or moves their hands and feet too much while cutting nails, the risk of injury increases. Therefore, relax the child by playing or talking.
When to cut?
Dr. Ravi Malik says the best time to cut nails is after a bath. Immediately after a bath, the nails become soft and easy to cut. This prevents pain for the child, and there's no risk of the nail breaking or cracking.
Hold the Finger
Whenever you cut your child's nails, hold their finger firmly. This will prevent skin injury even if the child moves slightly.
Choose the Right Nail Cutter
Dr. Malik further states that pediatric nail cutters should always be used for children. Adult nail cutters are not suitable for children because they carry a greater risk of skin cuts.
Cut Properly
Apart from all this, always remember to cut nails straight across, never in a curved shape. Also, cut only the white part of the nail and avoid cutting too close to the skin.

What to do if you get a cut?
Doctors say that if you accidentally get a minor cut, immediately press it with cotton for a while and then clean it with an antiseptic.
Doctors say that cutting children's nails is not a difficult task; just a little caution is needed. By cutting nails at the right time and in the right manner, you can protect your child from injury and infection.
