Veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who created records by taking a flurry of wickets with his devastating bowling in the World Cup 2023, has achieved another big feat. Shami, who is playing his first ICC tournament after the World Cup, has completed his 200 wickets in ODI cricket by taking 3 wickets in Team India's very first match in the Champions Trophy. With this, he has become the fastest Indian bowler to achieve this feat.

World record for 200 wickets in the least number of balls

Before this match of Champions Trophy 2025 against Bangladesh in Dubai, Shami needed 3 wickets to complete 200 wickets. Shami, who was playing the Champions Trophy match for the first time in his 12-year long career, did not disappoint and took a step towards this record by taking a wicket in the very first over. Then in his fourth over too, Shami did wonders and took Bangladesh's third and his second wicket.

Then after waiting for some time, Shami not only broke the big partnership of 154 runs by dismissing Zakir Ali, but also completed his 200 wickets. Shami, who made his debut in ODI cricket in 2013, completed 200 wickets in his 104th match. With this, he became the fastest bowler to take 200 wickets in ODI cricket. Shami broke the world record by achieving this feat in 5126 balls. Earlier, this achievement was in the name of Australian legend Mitchell Starc (5240 balls).

left Ajit Agarkar behind

If we look at the number of matches, Shami has become the second fastest bowler in the world. Only Starc (102 matches) is ahead of him, while legendary Pakistani spinner Saqlain Mushtaq also achieved this feat in 104 matches. But Shami has definitely got the record of taking 200 wickets in the least number of matches from India. Earlier this record was in the name of Ajit Agarkar for India, who achieved this feat in 133 matches.

Most wickets in ICC events too

Shami did not just stop here, he also made the record of most wickets for India in ODI-T20 ICC events. Till now this record was in the name of former veteran pacer Zaheer Khan, who had taken 71 wickets in the World Cup and Champions Trophy. Shami left Zaheer behind by taking a total of 73 wickets in the World Cup, Champions Trophy and T20 World Cup. Shami has done this feat in just 33 matches. If we talk only about the World Cup and Champions Trophy, then here Shami has made 59 batsmen his victims in just 19 matches.
