Madhubala lived a life of just 36 years. But, in such a short time, she did such work that to date no one can compete with her. Madhubala was born on 14 February 1933 in Delhi in the house of Ataullah Khan and Ayesha Begum. Madhubala was the fifth among 11 siblings. Her beauty was talked about everywhere. To take care of the household responsibilities, the actress started working from an early age. In 1942, Madhubala worked in the film 'Vasant' at the age of just 9 years and this is where her film career started. She got a salary of just Rs 150 for this film.
How did Madhubala become 'Baby Mumtaz'?
At the age of nine, she was named 'Baby Mumtaz'. Mumtaz's real name was Mumtaz Jahan Dehlavi. The famous actress of that era, Devika Rani, advised Mumtaz to change her name to Madhubala. Madhubala debuted as a lead actress in the film 'Neel Kamal'. Madhubala proved her acting skills in films like 'Fagun', 'Howrah Bridge', 'Kala Paani' and 'Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi'. Her character in the timeless film 'Mughal-e-Azam' became immortal.

After parting ways with Dilip Kumar, Madhubala's closeness grew with Kishore Kumar. Kishore Kumar loved the actress very much. Even after knowing about Madhubala's illness, he agreed to marry her. Kishore left no stone unturned in Madhubala's treatment. When he could not get treatment in the country, he went abroad, but fate had something else in store. Madhubala's health kept deteriorating. It is said that when Madhubala's condition worsened, he left the actress at her father's house because he could not see her in this condition. Madhubala wanted to spend time with Kishore Kumar, but Kishore would not come to meet her for several weeks. The distance from Kishore made Madhubala even more ill.
