The winter season brings several health problems for children. Cold air, falling temperatures, and weakened immunity make children susceptible to colds, coughs, and chest congestion. Sometimes, they even experience difficulty breathing, preventing them from playing properly or sleeping peacefully.

The constant coughing and discomfort also worry parents. In such times, along with medication, traditional home remedies from Ayurveda can be very helpful. Ayurveda believes that maintaining a balance between body and mind can reduce cold-related problems. Here are some such remedies:
Pay attention to the mother's diet.
If the child is breastfed, the mother's diet directly affects the child's health. According to Ayurveda, the mother should avoid cold foods, overly spicy foods, and heavy meals. Good digestion strengthens the child's immunity.
Sesame oil massage
Sesame oil is considered very beneficial in Ayurveda. It has a warming effect, which helps reduce chest congestion and phlegm. Gently massage the child's chest, back, and limbs with slightly warm sesame oil. This provides warmth to the body and gives the child relief.
Use of betel leaves
Betel leaves have anti-inflammatory properties. Slightly warm a betel leaf, apply sesame oil to it, and place it on the child's chest. Cover it with a soft cloth. This remedy reduces cough and congestion caused by the cold.
Consumption of nutmeg and dates
Nutmeg and dates keep the body warm from within during winter. Giving the child dates soaked in milk, a few raisins, and a pinch of nutmeg powder provides relief from cough and congestion and promotes better sleep.

The doctor's advice is essential
Respiratory or chest problems in children can be serious. Therefore, always consult a pediatrician before trying any home remedies. With proper care, children can stay healthy even during the winter months.
