Kedarnath Yatra 2026 Update: As the pilgrimage to the pinnacle of faith, Kedarnath, draws closer, arrangements are becoming increasingly stringent. This time, the administration has issued a clear message regarding horses and mules, considered the lifeline of the pilgrimage, that no one will be allowed to operate them without insurance, fitness, and registration.

Maha Abhiyan to Begin February 26
The Animal Husbandry Department is launching a special mega-campaign starting February 26. The health check-up, insurance, and registration process for all horses and mules will be completed approximately one and a half months before the start of the pilgrimage, to avoid any disruption or risk during the pilgrimage. Three to four special camps will be organized until Holi. The campaign will resume after the holidays. For the convenience of livestock owners, two camps will be set up daily, where the entire process will be completed in one location. The administration's goal is to ensure 100% verification and insurance of horses and mules before the start of the pilgrimage.
Insurance premiums will be paid online.
This time, insurance premiums will be paid entirely online. Cash transactions at the camps will be strictly prohibited. The department believes this will increase transparency and strictly curb irregularities. It has been clearly stated that no animal will be allowed on the pilgrimage route without valid documents and online payment. Veterinary Officer Dr. Rajiv Goyal explained that thousands of pilgrims rely on horses and mules for the arduous climb from Gaurikund to the holy shrine. Therefore, they must be healthy, capable, and insured. He appealed to animal owners to reach the camps on time and complete all formalities so that the pilgrimage can be conducted safely and systematically.

"Safety is paramount"
This year, the administration is more strict and vigilant than ever before regarding the Chardham Yatra. Preparations have been intensified on all three fronts: safety, transparency, and discipline. This massive campaign for horse and mule insurance and fitness demonstrates that the Kedarnath Yatra 2026 will be conducted with the mantra of "safety is paramount."
