Karnataka: When she could not go to Kumbh, a 57-year-old woman dug a well and brought out 'Ganga' in her house..

57-year-old Gauri, a resident of Sirsi in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, did such a thing that everyone was stunned. Due to financial constraints, she could not go to the Maha Kumbh Mela being held in Prayagraj, so she dug a 40 feet deep well in the courtyard of her house. She believes that if she cannot go to Prayagraj, then she has brought her 'Ganga' down to earth.

Lack of money became an obstacle but did not lose the courage
Gauri's life depends on farming and her financial condition is not very strong. When she came to know that going to Prayagraj for Maha Kumbh would be expensive, she did not give up. She decided to dig a well in the courtyard of her own house on 15 December 2024 and started digging without anyone's help.

Completed the difficult task with daily hard work
Gauri used to dig for 6 to 8 hours daily. Taking out the soil, throwing it out, and gradually reaching the depth - it was not an easy task. But with her hard work, she completed the well in just two months, by 15 February 2025. Her determination and hard work were worth seeing.

Has dug wells before too
This is not the first time Gauri has dug a well. Earlier too, she had dug a well for irrigation in her field. Apart from this, she has also dug wells in Ganesh Nagar Anganwadi School in Sirsi to quench the thirst of the people of the village.

The government stopped it, but Gauri did not stop
When the matter of the well dug in Gauri's Anganwadi school came into discussion, the administration tried to stop it. The district administration had ordered to stop the digging, but the then MP of Uttara Kannada Anant Kumar Hegde supported her and got the work completed. Even today that well is quenching the thirst of the people.
