Acidity and Gas Problems: Gas and acidity are extremely common problems. Most people struggle with these problems at one time or another. Often, people prefer to drink cold drinks to get relief from gas and acidity. Many people believe that drinking cold drinks will provide immediate relief. In fact, people often burp after drinking cold drinks, and they consider this a relief. If you do this, you need to be cautious. According to health experts, cold drinks do not provide relief from gas and acidity because they contain nothing beneficial. They can actually worsen the problem.

Dr. Anil Arora, Chairman of the Institute of Liver Gastroenterology and Pancreatico-Biliary Sciences at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi, told News18 that cold drinks should not be consumed to relieve gas and acidity. These drinks contain excessive sugar and carbon dioxide. They also contain various acids, flavors, and other chemicals, which are harmful to the stomach and liver. Long-term consumption of cold drinks can worsen gas and acidity. It can also lead to fatty liver problems.
The doctor explained that acidity occurs when excess stomach acid is produced, causing heartburn or acid reflux. It can also lead to gastroesophageal reflux disease, where stomach acid rises into the throat. Gas occurs when air or gas accumulates in the stomach, causing bloating and discomfort. Both of these problems are related to diet, stress, or unhealthy eating habits. The carbonation and acidic elements in cold drinks can exacerbate these problems instead of alleviating them. Carbonated drinks create bubbles in the stomach, which can increase pressure and push acid upward.

Gastroenterologists say that regularly drinking cold drinks can disrupt the digestive system, increasing acid levels and causing problems like gas and bloating. Sugary drinks don't help an upset stomach and can worsen many conditions. Experts recommend drinking plain water, herbal tea, ginger tea, low-fat milk, or non-acidic juices instead of cold drinks to relieve gas and acidity. These help dilute stomach acid and provide relief. Additionally, improve your lifestyle, eat smaller meals, and reduce stress. If the problem persists, consult a doctor for evaluation.
