In a tribute to the legendary actor Dharmendra, preparations are underway to re-release his superhit film ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’ in theaters. Shreyansh Hirawat, owner of NH Studios, the company that holds the film's rights, spoke at length with Amar Ujala about this special initiative and shared several emotional and personal aspects related to the film.

This is not a commercial matter, but one driven by emotions.
Regarding the re-release of the film ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’, Shreyansh says, “Initially, we planned to re-release this film around Dharmendra's birthday in December. But given the emotional atmosphere after Dharam ji's passing, we felt it would be better to wait a little. This wasn't just a commercial decision, but entirely an emotional one. We wanted whatever step we took to be done with complete respect and at the right time, so we decided to postpone the release for a while. Yes, one thing is certain: the film will return to theaters soon.”
We acquired this film directly from Dharmendra ji.
Sharing memories related to the film, Shreyansh became emotional. He said, “This film is very special to us because we bought ‘Yamla Pagga Deewana’ directly from Dharmendra ji. I still remember that we signed the papers for this film at Sunny Super Sound's office in Mumbai. This was back in 2012. At that time, I was in the early stages of my career and learning the business. Dharmendra ji, Sunny Deol sir, everyone was there, and we acquired this film from them. Their conversation, their trust, and their warmth at that time will always make this film memorable for us.”
The film was like a new beginning for the Deol family.
Shreyansh believes that ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’ was not just a hit film for the Deol family. He says, “This film was very important for the Deol family. They had worked at their respective levels before, but this film became a major blockbuster. The audience loved seeing Dharmendra ji, Sunny, and Bobby Deol together in this way.” This franchise originated from their own home and immediately proved to be a blockbuster.
Bobby's videos are a hit.
Talking about Bobby Deol's current popularity, Shreyansh says, "We have data from YouTube and other digital platforms. We have clearly seen that whenever a film or video clip of Bobby Deol is uploaded, the audience traction increases suddenly. Even if you compare him with other big actors, Bobby Deol's videos see a bigger spike. His fan following has increased manifold since 'Animal'. Dharmendra ji, Sunny Deol, and Bobby Deol all have their own strong audience. That's why we are confident that the re-release of the film will receive a tremendous response."
This is a tribute to Dharmendra's cinematic journey.
At the end of the conversation, Shreyansh says, "This re-release will not only be a source of laughter and entertainment, but it will also be an emotional opportunity to pay tribute to Dharmendra ji's long and memorable cinematic journey. The Deol family's on-screen chemistry and the warmth of their family relationships will once again be seen by the audience on the big screen."
What kind of film was 'Yamla Pagla Deewana'?
The film 'Yamla Pagla Deewana', directed by Samir Karnik, was named after the famous song 'Main Jat Yamla Pagla Deewana' from the 1975 Dharmendra-starrer film 'Pratigya'. The film's story is about a young Indian man living in Canada who comes to Varanasi in search of his estranged father and brother. From here, the lives of the three change, and their journey takes them to Punjab. In Punjab, the story goes through humorous and emotional twists and turns, where the three try to complete the younger brother's love story. During this time, the conflict with the girl's eccentric family makes the film entertaining. Desi humor, family emotions, and music are the hallmarks of this film.
Dharmendra's last film
Dharmendra's last film is 'Ikkiis', which is a war drama. In this film, Amitabh Bachchan's grandson Agastya Nanda and Akshay Kumar's niece Simar Bhatia will also be seen in important roles. This film will be released on December 25, 2025.
