Before starting the campaign in the Champions Trophy, Indian team captain Rohit Sharma has broken his silence on why Shubman Gill has been given the responsibility of vice-captain. Rohit praised his opening partner on Wednesday and said that there are some reasons for making Gill the vice-captain of the team. Gill may not have been able to impress much on the Australia tour, but his statistics in the ODI format are quite good.

Rohit said before the match against Bangladesh, Gill is a very good player and his ability in the team has never been doubted. We are used to adapting to the format and I do not think this is not the right way to judge a player. Every player has strength in a format and if he has not been able to perform well in one format, he doesn't need to perform the same in other formats. What happened in Australia is in front of all of us, but things have also changed when the format changed.

He said, if I talk about Gill, his statistics are good. He has batted brilliantly for us in the last three to four years. There is a reason why he was made the vice-captain of the team. I hope that the Champions Trophy will be a good tournament for him and he will be able to achieve the achievements he wants.
